What is wear and tear and is it covered?
Wear and tear is the damage that happens naturally as something gets old. Some examples of this include:
- Your carpets getting worn by being repeatedly walked on.
- Nails corroding allowing the slates on your roof to slip and let water into your home.
- Mortar that holds the ridge tiles on your roof becoming weathered over time, causing the ridge tiles becoming loose
- It can also be the grout and sealants in your shower which crack and fail, allowing water to get through the tiles or flooring.
- Your TV has stopped working due to its age.
Wear and tear isn’t covered by your policy, the reason for this is because insurance is designed to protect you for things that could happen occasionally – rather than providing a replacement or repair when items just wear out.
