Can I choose to keep my written off vehicle?
You may be able to, but it would depend on the level of damage your vehicle has sustained.
If you keep a written off vehicle there are some things you need to know:
• Depending on your vehicle's model and the extent of the damage, vehicles that have been declared a write-off can lose between 18-26% of their value.
• If your vehicle is a Category S write-off (which means it has structural damage), you'll need to get a new V5C (or 'log book') for it.
• If the repairs aren't carried out correctly, and the vehicle is involved in an accident as a result of this, you may not be covered by insurance. This means you might have to pay costs – both for yourself and anyone else involved.
• If your vehicle has been recovered by one of our service providers. We won’t be responsible for any further damage that may have been caused while it was stored or transported.
• We strongly recommend that you get a new MOT or independent engineer's report once you complete the repairs to your vehicle.
