Is there a fee to cancel my home policy?

We're sorry you're thinking of cancelling your home insurance and we’re always here to help if you need us in the future. 
If your policy hasn't started yet, or it's within the first 14 days of starting, you won't be charged a cancellation fee. However, you will need to pay for any time you've been insured by us and for any non-refundable fees you paid when you bought your policy.

If you cancel your policy after 14 days, then as well as the time you’ve been insured by us, you'll also need to pay a cancellation fee. Please see our fee guide for more information. 

You may have other options 
Depending on why you want to cancel, there may be some other options. For example:

  • If you're moving home, need to make a change or found a better quote elsewhere, please call us on 0333 321 9801 – if you need to make a change or you’re moving, you might not need to cancel your policy (and potentially pay a cancellation fee). You can update your current policy details by giving us a call. You’ll find our opening hours here. If you’ve a better quote from another insurer, get in touch and we can review your cover and then check all your options. Before you call, please make a note of the excess and any benefits on your other quote so we make sure we’re comparing a like-for-like policy for you. 
  • If you've had a renewal quote but don't want to renew – just let us know before your renewal date by calling us on 0333 321 9681. We'd love you to stay with us, so if you do get a better quote, call us with the details and we'll see what your options are.
  • If you're worried about paying for your insurance – please get in touch soon as possible. We can talk you through your payment options and may be able to find a solution that works for you (including payment holidays, extensions and partial payments). All conversations are confidential and if it's easier, we can talk to a relative, friend or debt counselling organisation about your account (we'll just need your OK first). If you do decide to cancel your policy 
Just call us on 0333 321 9801. If you pay monthly, we'll let you know if you owe us anything for the time you've been insured and there may also be a cancellation fee to pay.

After deducting the time you've been insured by us and any non-refundable fees when you bought your policy, we'll work out if we owe you any money. We'll then send you a confirmation of your cancellation.

If you need proof of your claim-free years 
You can find this in our app or MyAccount. Just log in, go the ‘Documents’ section and choose ‘Request NCD’ link to get proof of claims-free years. 

Alternatively, you’ll find it in your cancellation letter if the policy is cancelled. This letter has details of all your claim-free years and is uploaded to our app or MyAccount. Depending on how you've chosen for us to contact you, it will also be sent to you by either email or post.
