What are ‘minimum security’ locks?

Here is the minimum level of security you need for each point of entry (doors and windows) to your home.

Final exit doors (front doors)

On each door, you must have either:

  • A 5 lever mortice deadlock that conforms to British Standard BS3621.
  • Or a key-operated deadlocking mechanism with at least three locking points.

Windows

You must have key-operated locks on all ground floor and accessible windows.

French/patio doors

You need a key-operated multi-locking system that locks at the top, middle and bottom of the door.

All locks must be secured when you go to bed or leave the property. If they're not secured:

  • We might not cover a claim for theft.
  • We could increase your excesses.
