Why is my claim open?
We make every effort to close your claim as quickly as possible, but there are many reasons why your claim may need to be kept open for a while. These include:
• We still need to finalise a settlement with you, if we haven’t already done so.
• Something is outstanding between us and our salvage provider Copart.
• You still need to transfer ownership of your vehicle to Copart.
• There are things you are claiming for other than your vehicle.
• We haven’t agreed with another insurer who was responsible yet.
• Another vehicle was responsible for the incident and their insurer still owes us money.
As soon as your claim is closed, we’ll let you know by email or letter.
What’s the effect of an open claim?
• Whether or not a claim is open or closed, a claim can affect the price of insurance you are offered in the future, if you need to amend or renew your policy.
• If you’ve been told that you weren’t at fault (not responsible for the settlement or costs of an incident), then an open claim may impact the quotes you get from insurers. This is because they may presume you are responsible until the claim is fully closed.
• If you’ve been told that you were at fault (this doesn’t mean that you’re to blame, just that can’t recover the settlement or costs of an incident from the other insurer), then an open claim won’t impact the quotes you get from insurers.
