Is there a fee to cancel my car policy?
We're sorry you're thinking of cancelling your car insurance and we’re always here to help if you need us in the future.
If your policy hasn't started yet, or it's within the first 14 days of starting, you won't be charged a cancellation fee. However, you will need to pay for any time you've been insured by us and for any non-refundable fees you paid (such as the arrangement fee) when you bought your policy.
If you cancel your policy after 14 days, then as well as the time you’ve been insured by us, you'll also need to pay a cancellation fee. Please see our fee guide for more information.
Depending on why you want to cancel, there may be some other options
- If you've found a better price elsewhere, simply go to the home screen of our app and choose ‘Message Us’ to start your conversation. If you don't have the app, you can find other ways to contact us here. We can review your cover and then check all your options. Before you get in touch, please make a note of the excess and any benefits on your other quote, so we can make sure we’re comparing a like-for-like policy for you
- If you don't want to go ahead with your renewal, just let us know before your renewal date by calling us on 0333 321 9790 (our opening hours are here). We'd love you to stay with us so, if you do get a better quote, call us with the details and we'll see what your options are.
- If you're worried about paying for your insurance, please get in touch as soon as possible. We can talk you through your payment options and may be able to find a solution that works for you (including payment holidays, extensions and partial payments). All conversations are confidential and if it's easier, we can talk to a relative, friend or debt counselling organisation about your account (we'll just need your OK first). - If you need to change your details (e.g. if you're moving home, getting a new car or need to make other changes), you might not need to cancel your policy. Instead, try updating your current policy details. It's easy to do online and there's no need to pay a cancellation fee.
How to make a change in our app or MyAccount:
- Log in, then select the change you want to make and add your new information.
- You'll be given a quote, which includes any change to your total price and any fees you need to pay.
- Select ‘Continue’ if you want to go ahead. If the change you want to make means your total price will go down, you'll be due a refund. Or if your price has gone up, you can choose how to pay.
If you don’t want to carry on, simply select ‘Cancel changes’ (please remember, you do need to tell us if your details have changed, as you may not be covered if you have to make a claim).
If you decide to cancel your policy, you can do this online. Simply go to the home screen of our app and choose ‘Message Us’ to start your conversation.
